Ian Madrigal | "Cause"-Play: Creative Activism to Dismantle Corporate Power and White Supremacy

Ian Madrigal is the creative activist and political strategist behind the viral Monopoly Man appearances in Congress and the shaming of Trump DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant. In addition to inspiring a "cause"-play movement, Ian is an attorney, an organizer, and a writer focused on racial and economic justice, trans/queer rights, and radical democratic reform. They are currently working with a Black and Indigenous femme-led team to build a national movement for Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations in the U.S. A graduate of UCLA Law’s David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy and Critical Race Studies Specialization, Ian's original analysis of historical and legal links between corporate privilege and white supremacy entitled “Corporations are (White) People” was published in the Harvard Journal on Racial and Ethnic Justice in 2015. Their work has been profiled in the New York Times, Washington Post, HBO, the Today Show, Fox News, NPR, and many more.
