Both Yuriko and Dan have published multiple award winning books. We will be discussing the inspiration for their research, their writing practices and the ways in which they do desk research and explore archives online.

Yuriko Saito is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy. She taught classes at RISD on ecological responsibility in art and design, Japanese aesthetics, everyday aesthetics and philosophy of nature. Her Everyday Aesthetics was published by Oxford University Press (2008, paperback edition 2010), followed by Aesthetics of the Familiar: Everyday Life and World-Making (Oxford University Press, 2017, paperback edition forthcoming). The latter was awarded the outstanding monograph prize by the American Society for Aesthetics.

Daniel Cavicchi is a cultural historian whose research and teaching explores the role of the arts in the everyday lives of Americans. His books include Listening and Longing: Music Lovers in the Age of Barnum; Tramps Like Us: Music and Meaning Among Springsteen Fans; and My Music: Explorations of Music in Daily Life, with Charles Keil and Susan D. Crafts, Listening and Longing: Music Lovers in the Age of Barnum won the 2012 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award as well as the Peter C. Rollins Book Prize from the Northeast Popular Culture Association.
